FAQ

When does my first tale arrive?

Orders placed by December 25 begin with the January tale, mailed the first week of January 2027. Any order placed after the 25th of a month, December included, rolls over to the next month's tale, so an order on December 26 begins with February's.

What is the Founding Year?

From the release in early November to November 30, 2026 only, we offer the Founding Year: twelve tales, January through December 2027, paid once. It does not renew.

Does my subscription renew automatically?

Founding Year packages are paid once and don't renew. Subscriptions bought from December 1, 2026 renew automatically at the end of each term (every 3, 6 or 12 months) at the same price until you cancel.

How do I cancel?

Log in to your account, open Subscriptions, and choose Cancel subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals, and tales you've already paid for will still arrive. If you cancel before your first tale ships, we'll refund you in full. A Founding Year has nothing to cancel, but you can still request a full refund any time before your first tale ships.

What ages are the tales for?

Written to be read aloud to children from about age 4, read alone from about age 8, and enjoyed by grown-ups regardless of whether or not children are in the picture.

Are the tales scary?

Some are, the way the old tales were, and a few are sad. Nothing is crude or graphic, and every tale ends with something worth talking about. With a sensitive child, or if you're a sensitive parent, read it yourself first.

What's the difference between the Chapbook and Library editions?

The tale inside is the same. The Chapbook edition has a kraft cover and a stapled spine. The Library edition has full-color cover art on white kraft, and every issue gets its own brand-new cover. Both are the perfect size for little hands and portable for on-the-go.

How long is each tale?

A comfortable bedtime read of about 12 to 24 small pages.

Can I give it as a gift?

Yes. See Give a Gift for how the printable certificate works. A Founding Year gift never renews. Gift subscriptions bought from December 1 renew on the giver's card like any other; cancel before the renewal date to give a set number of tales.

Do you ship outside the US?

Not yet. Join the list and we'll tell you when we do.

Is there a digital version?

No. Paper only, on purpose.

Is AI used to write the tales or make the art?

No. Every tale is written by our master storyteller, and every cover and illustration is made by our talented artists. No generative AI writes our stories or creates our art.

I'm moving. Can I change the address?

Of course. You can update it in your account, or email support@talesfromafardistantland.com at least a week before the next mailing.
